Mindmaps

Image
In this mind map i explore how i could structure my documentary, i decided these ideas didn't convey the message i wanted in my documentary however they are still informative and explore how the internet and social media has influenced trends in society.

Edit practice

In this video i have faded in and out of audio and video, using two different videos

camera angles

A cutaway is used in media to add more context and visuals to what could be a long and boring clip. they're often used to keep the attention of the viewer by changing and switching clips on screen with no transitions.                                              In these videos we focused on the hands of the barber moving, using the lens of the camera we moved the focus around the actions of the person. In this video we got got a close up of some of the equipment on the table, by focusing on the farthest object and moving along the table.  in this video we decided to focus on multiple pieces of equipment and moving across to show off all the equipment.  We used a different lens to change the focus across each piece of equipment seen in the shot.  in this video we focused on the face of the barber in a close up and moved onto the action of their hands changing...

Script

Culture in the digital age documentary Fashion  Narrator (me) : clothes and fashion are forever changing as time goes on new clothes need to be made to meet demand   whether it’s used to express yourself or just for show people everywhere like to dress the way they want to, however keeping up with fashion in the digital age can be tough and out a strain on the environment and people surrounding the industry. Problem 1: chemicals that are used to clean and dye clothes pollute water - The fashion industry produces 10% of the worlds carbon emissions and is the second largest consumer of the worlds water supply Problem 2: machines used in factories put some people out of jobs - jobs that are now needed in factories such as those making clothes and textiles now require more or higher qualifications making it harder for some to get or keep jobs surrounding the industry.   Problem 3: fast fashion

Existing product and research analysis

Image
Existing product analysis / research I found that when researching most documentaries that focus on the topic of fashion they focus on the making of clothes and how making clothes effects the environment  This video goes over why fashion tends to repeat itself.  The main reason for fashion repeating or gaining popular attention has to do with tv shows, movies and current influencers, as of now the main reason for styles and trends in fashion has to do with social media and the influencers, whether they’ve been paid to promote or just enjoy the style they have the largest influence on style and many other things. Before social media fashion trends were popularised through tv shows, movies and runway shows. Technology has just as big of an influence on the whole of fashion culture in the current digital age than what media such as tv, films had on fashion in the 80s and 90s, whilst these forms of media still popularise trends in the current digital age they don't have as much of...

Print Ads have the usual conventions of any print Ad. Most Ads use a main image usually the focal point of the ad, these ads usually use images of people or animals looking directly at the viewer in a form of direct address, they use these kinds of images to make the viewer feel involved in the Ad making the viewer more emotionally invested making it more likely that the person will donate or give to the charity. Similarly Ads use direct address to make the viewer feel as though the Ad is directly speaking toward them, this is used to make the viewer feel guilty and sympathetic making it more likely that someone will donate.  This Ad is an example of using the main image to include the viewer by making the main image, the child, look directly at the viewer making the ad more impactful on the viewers emotions towards the situation the child is in. They have used an image of a child over an adult to emotionally manipulate the viewer even more into donating. The use of these children ...

Audience research AC1

The audience of the advert are teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19, while the age gap between 13 and 19 is large the topic of mental health can be generalised into one demographic of being a teenager.  whilst researching for mental health statistics a website called young peoples mental health gave the most informative statistics. https://youngminds.org.uk/about-us/media-centre/mental-health-stats/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwpdqDBhCSARIsAEUJ0hNAY7hYVZuojCmFkIgrmky3PrNUpY069KbkvA3tiyhmxyaWEASpCpAaAruTEALw_wcB - in 2017 suicide was the most common cause of death for both boys and girls aged between 5 and 19 - nearly half of 17-19 year olds who have attempted suicide or self harmed have a diagnosable mental health disorder  - 1 in 8 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder (roughly 3 children in a classroom) - half of mental health problems manifest or make themselves known by the age of 14 on the NHS website a study showed that " Children and young people with a probable mental...

Smile campaign brief AC1; interpretation of the brief

My client Happy Foundations is a company trying to make a happier society by encouraging positive changes and attitudes in peoples lives, homes, communities and workplaces. Happy foundations wants me to make a piece of creative media to make people smile, the piece of media I am going to create is a poster advert, these ads are useful as they are made to be used online as well as in a physical form. Being able to use the ad online is helpful as the advert will have a larger reach and relates to the audience  The foundation have asked me to target teenagers aged from 13-19, I can use this to my advantage as I am included in the intended audience  An issue that surrounds the company is that they are a charity which means that their budget would be small, which means that the ad may not be to the highest standard. Another issue is that the brief has asked me to focus on people my own age, things that make people smile is subjective to the person, because of this i will need to do...

Culture in the digital age

Culture in the digital age: Informing and developing ideas  For this project I am required to make a short documentary for young people. The target audience of my documentary is young people between the ages of 13 and 19, the aim of the documentary is to show young people the how the digital age has changed our society and to think further on the impact of how it has changed the modern age.  I decided to make my documentary involved with fashion and how trends in fashion often make comebacks through social media. I think this would be a good example because it shows how our society is influenced by the digital age and the trends that follow with it. Fashion is an example of trends that have been influenced by society and social media, I feel that this shows the influence of social media on our society worldwide by focusing on old and new trends that re-populate through the internet and social media.  The documentary is meant to last between 5 and 15 minutes, I will further...

My idea

I decided to make my documentary around trends and style including how the media influences the public and how technology has effected the manufacturing of clothes materials and how they effect the environment. This is a good example of how technology has an effect on the public and how it effects those in the industry. I can go into detail about how technology has changed manufacturing and how it had positively and negatively effected people who work or used to work in factories, for example people who have lost jobs and how, how people have gained jobs from this and how technology has effected small businesses and large companies. through technology businesses can reach out to larger audiences whether the company is small or large getting positive exposure on the internet can help sales. Its much easier for smaller brands to advertise themselves on the internet helping them gain more for what they do.       I can further go into detail about how the technology used...

Documentary diary

Week 1- This week i had to decide what my idea will be for my documentary and how it can be linked to the digital age along with some research about my idea. I also had to write about the given brief on what my documentary should include and why.  Week 2 - I continued to work on how i interpreted the brief and started to create a mind map of idea that i could use. Furthermore i have started to create a presentation on what my documentary will consist of and how it will play out.  Week 3 - This week i finished my interpreting ideas document and started to document some research and already existing media that are of the same topic  Week 4 - I have gone into detail about the research i have done on fashion in the digital age and how it differs from before the digital age.  Week 5 - This week i have started to create a time line and script for my documentary. I have evaluated on my idea and how i can develop it to further show my ideas.  Week 6 - This week i develo...

Sound design - Project plan and research

For this project i have been asked to recreate the foley sounds of a short clip, the clip i use can be from a game, an advert, an animation or a movie. The client of this project is The Point Sound Appreciation Club, They plan on holding an event in which young sound designers in my area can submit and showcase some of their work to be displayed at the exhibition for other sound designers and small independent film directors to see.The target audience for this project is for other young sound designers and film directors, my main goal with my project is to show my skills through re-designing the sounds of my chosen clip to be displayed at an exhibition attended by other young sound designers and film directors looking for sound designers.   Some constraints that may get in the way are time and resources, To combat this i should make a timeline or timetable of specific activities that i should do to make sure that i use all of my time effectively. As for resources i should also...

Documentary

Image
As a team we recorded three different types of interviews, one with a professional tone, one with a more sinister tone and a final interview/ debate with a more layed back tone. lighting - backlight (lighting the background) , key light (main or key subject) , fill light ( fill in whatever you want)  these images demonstrate the professional style interview with back, fill and key lighting elements, they light the background and the two people involved so that everything is clear to view. This makes the interview look professional, to improve we could've   the camera was set at ISO 400 and the aperture speed was f7.1 these images were used when recording the interview with a more sinister tone, the lighting has been moved to make the interviewers guest look more sinister, this makes the interview seem more serious as it is presented with a darker tone, to make it better i think we should have used a different camera shot to get the interviews reactions.
